[ Curtain goes up.

=পর্দা উঠে গেল ।।

In deep   centre stage a high and large square box looking like a pedestal is placed.

= মঞ্চের মাঝখানে একটি ব্যাধির মতো দেখতে চৌকো বাক্স রাখা রয়েছে । (square–স্কয়ার,pedestal–পেডেস্টাল)

Upon the box stands the Happy Prince.

= বাক্সটির উপর সুখী রাজপুত্র দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছে ।

He stands stiffly resembling a statue.

= একটি মূর্তির মত আড়ষ্টভাবে /ভঙ্গিতে দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছে । (stiffly–স্টিফলি, resembling–রিসেম্বলিং)

 A statue is what the Happy Prince is.

= সুখী রাজপুত্র হল আসলে একটি মূর্তি ।

He is wearing a golden tunic and stands still with legs apart, his hands resting on the hilt of a  sword whose tip rests   on the pedestal-shaped box.

=সে সোনালী পোশাক পরিহিত এবং দুটি পা ফাঁক করে স্থির হয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে তার হাত দুটি একটি তরবারির হাতলের উপর রাখা রয়েছে, যে তরবারির প্রান্তটি বেদী আকৃতির বাস্কের উপরে রয়েছে । (tunic-টিউনিক,- hilt-হিল্ট)

 A large red stone is fixed on the side of the hilt.

= একটি বড় লাল রঙের পাথর তরোয়ালের হাতলে আটকানো রয়েছে বা বসানো রয়েছে ।

The open eyes of the Happy Prince are individually covered with blue coloured paper cut in the shape of the eye and lightly glued to hold them in place.

= সুখী রাজপুত্র খোলা চোখ দুটি আলাদা করে চোখের মতো আকারের কাটা কাগজে ঢাকা এবং ঠিক জায়গায় আটকে রাখার জন্য হালকা আটা দিয়ে আটকানো ।   (individually–ইনডিভিজুয়ালি,glued– গ্লুড)

The statue of Happy Prince faces the audience.           

= সুখী রাজপুত্র মূর্তিটি দর্শকদের দিকে মুখ করে রয়েছে ।    (audience– অডিয়েন্স)

A few young students holding books, bags on their shoulders come out of the left wing, cross  the stage talking.

= কয়েকটি কমবয়সী ছাত্র হাতে বই ও কাঁধে ব্যাগ নিয়ে মঞ্চের বাম ধার দিয়ে প্রবেশ করে কথা বলতে বলতে গেল ।

The stage is lit in yellow.)

= মঞ্চটি হলদে আলোয় আলোকিত ।

Student 1 : So this is the famous statue of Happy Prince.

= তাহলে এটাই সুখি রাজপুত্রের মূর্তি ।

[ They pause and gather admiringly around the statue of the Happy Prince]

= তারা থামে এবং প্রশংসার দৃষ্টিতে তাকিয়ে সুখী রাজপুত্রের মূর্তির চারধারে জড়ো হয় ।(admiringly– অ্যাডমায়রিংলি)

Student 2 : He is very well known in this land.

= সুখী রাজপুত্র এই দেশে খুবই সুপরিচিত ।

Happy Prince lived in the wonderful palace of Sans – Souci.

= সুখী রাজপুত্র সান সৌসির চমৎকার /বিস্ময়কর প্রাসাদে বাস করত ।

During the day, he played with his friends in the palace garden.

দিনের বেলা সে রাজপ্রাসাদের বাগানে তার বন্ধুদের সঙ্গে খেলা করতো ।  

By night, he sang and laughed.

= রাত্রে সে গান করত, মজা করত /হাসত ।    (laughed-লাফড)

He had no idea about the people of this world who live outside his palace.

প্রাসাদের বাইরের পৃথিবীতে যেসব মানুষ বাস করে তাদের সম্বন্ধে তার কোন ধারনাই ছিল না ।

Student 1 : You mean  he never felt sad?

= তুমি বলতে চাও সে কখনো দুঃখ পায়নি ?

Student 2 : Nothing  sad ever entered the door of the prince’s palace.

= দুঃখজনক কোনকিছুই কখনো রাজপুত্রের প্রাসাদের দরজা দিয়ে প্রবেশ করেনি ।  

Everyone called him the Happy Prince and when he died, the town built this statue and

named it the same.

= সবাই তাকে বলতো সুখী রাজপুত্র  আর তার যখন মৃত্যু হল শহর থেকে এই মূর্তিটি গড়ে দেওয়া হল নাম দেওয়া হল  একই (সুখী রাজপুত্র) ।

Student 3 :The Happy Prince is built with gold from head to foot.

= সুখী রাজপুত্র থেকে মাথা অব্দি সোনা দিয়ে তৈরি ।

His eyes are two precious sapphires and  there is a big red ruby on his sword hilt.

= তার চোখ দুটো দামি নীলকান্ত পাথর আর তরবারির হাতলে একটি বড় লাল চুনি বসানো আছে । (sapphires-স্যাফায়ারস)

 [ student 1 glances up at the Happy Prince with awe. They start walking. Student 2 speaks when they are close to the right wing exit.)

= প্রথম ছাত্রটি সম্ভ্রমের দৃষ্টিতে রাজপুত্রের দিকে তাকালো । তারা হাঁটতে শুরু করল যখন তারা ডানদিকের প্রস্থান পথের কাছাকাছি তখন দ্বিতীয় ছাত্রটি কথা বলল ।

Student 2 : In this town, everyone loves the Happy Prince.

= এই শহরের সকলেই সুখী রাজপুত্র কে ভালোবাসে

[ They go out. A sad, tired-looking man immediately enters the stage from the right.

= তারা চলে গেল । একজন দুঃখী ক্লান্ত দর্শন মানুষ সঙ্গে সঙ্গে মঞ্চের ডান দিক দিয়ে প্রবেশ করল ।

He limps down with an unhappy expression.

= দুঃখের অভিব্যক্তি নিয়ে লোকটি খোঁড়াচ্ছিল ।

He stops before the statue of the Happy Prince and looks unhappily for three seconds.

= সে রাজপুত্রের মূর্তির সামনে থেমে গেল এবং তিন সেকেন্ড দুঃখিত ভাবে তাকিয়ে রইল ।

He starts limping towards the left wing exit, muttering   loudly to himself             

= সে খোঁড়াতে খোঁড়াতে মঞ্চের বামদিকের প্রস্থান পথে গেল বেশ জোরে জোরে নিজের মনে বিড়বিড় করতে লাগলো । ]

Man : At least, there’s one truly happy man in this town. That is something!

= যাইহোক শহরে অন্তত একটা যথার্থ /প্রকৃত সুখী মানুষ আছে । এটা একটা ঘটনা ।

[The sad, tired man goes out through the left wing exit.

= = বাঁদিকে প্রস্থান পথ দিয়ে দুঃখী ক্লান্ত মানুষটা বেরিয়ে গেল ।

 Immediately from the left wing emerges a young mother dragging her little boy by the hand.

    = সঙ্গে সঙ্গে মঞ্চের বামদিক দিয়ে একটি ছোট ছেলের হাত ধরে টানতে টানতে একজন যুবতী মা প্রবেশ করল ।    (immediately- ইমিডিয়েটলি emerges- ইমারজস dragging-ড্রাগিং)

The boy is crying.

= ছেলেটা কাঁদছে ।

 Mother is trying to stop the boy from crying.

 = মা ছেলের কান্না থামানোর চেষ্টা করছে ।

They reach the statue of the Happy Prince. Mother speaks while walking)

= তারা সুখী রাজপুত্র এর মূর্তির কাছে পৌঁছাল । চলতে চলতে মা কথা বলছে ।

Young mother : I can’t understand why you keep crying!

= আমি বুঝতে পারছিনা কেন তুমি কেঁদে চলেছে!

Why can’t you be happy?

= তুমি খুশি থাকতে পারো না কেন ?

The Happy Prince never cries or new things.

= সুখী রাজপুত্র কখনো নতুন জিনিসের জন্য কাঁদে না ।

[ Mother and son go out through the left wing exit.

  = মা ও ছেলে বাম ধার দিয়ে বেরিয়ে গেল ।।

The stage light changes to blue.

= মঞ্চের আলো পাল্টে নীল হল ।  

The twittering call of a bird is heard in the background.

= নেপথ্যে একটি পাখির কিচির-মিচির ডাক শোনা গেল ।     (twittering-টুইটারিং)

Swallow, the bird, dressed in a black tunic, cardboard wings attached to its back, enters

stage from the right, joyously tripping.

= কালো পোশাক পরিহিত ও কার্ডবোর্ডের ডানা লাগানো চাতক পাখি মঞ্চের ডান দিকে প্রবেশ করল, আনন্দে লাফাতে লাফাতে ।     (attached-অ্যাটাচড, joyously-জয়াসলি)

The Swallow flaps its hands quickly to indicate flying. Swallow reaches centre stage, before the statue of the Happy Prince.)

= চাতক তার হাতগুলি দ্রুত নাড়ছিল ওড়া বোঝাবার জন্য, চাতক মঞ্চের সামনে সুখী রাজপুত্রের মূর্তির সামনে পৌঁছাল ।

Swallow : It’s much too cold here.

= এখানে বড় ঠান্ডা ।

All my friends have left for warm Egypt.

= আমার সব বন্ধুরা উষ্ণ মিশরের উদ্দেশ্যে যাত্রা করেছে ।

   I too must fly.

= আমাকেও অবশ্যই উড়ে যেতে হবে ।

But  tonight I will rest in this unknown town.

= কিন্তু আজ রাতে আমি অজানা শহরে বিশ্রাম নেব ।

The shelter between the feet of this golden statue looks good enough.

= এই সোনালী দুপায়ের মাঝখানে জায়গাটি বেশ ভালো মনে হচ্ছে ।

[ The Swallow perches on the pedestal- shaped box, holding a leg of the statue and resting his head against it.

= চাতক বেদির মতো আকৃতির বাক্সের ওপর নামল মূর্তিটির একটি পা ধরল এবং তার মাথার ওপর রাখল ।       (perches-পার্চেস,  pedestal-shaped-পেডেস্টাল -শেপড,  holding-হোল্ডিং)

 Swallow jerks  and jumps up suddenly after five seconds)

= চাতক কেঁপেউঠলো এবং লাফিয়ে উঠলো পাঁচ সেকেন্ডপরে ।    (jerks-জারকস)

Swallow : I thought this golden room was a good shelter.

= আমার মনে হয়েছিল সোনার এই জায়গাটা একটা খুব ভালো আশ্রয় ।    (shelter-শেল্টার)

But I’m getting wet in the rain.

= কিন্তু আমি বৃষ্টিতে ভিজে যাচ্ছি ।

[ The Swallow sticks its  neck out  and looks upwards. He looks puzzled]

= চাতকটি বাইরের দিকে তার গলা বাড়ালো এবং উপরের দিকে তাকালো ।  সে হতবুদ্ধি হয়ে গেল । (পাজলড)

Swallow : And yet, the sky is clear. It’s not raining.

= আরে আকাশ এখনো পরিষ্কার বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে না ।

[ swallow jumps up again as if a second drop of water had fallen.

= ঠিক যেন দ্বিতীয় এক ফোটা জল পড়েছে এমন ভাবে চাতক লাফিয়ে উঠলো ।

He now looks  up  at the statue and is amazed to see tear drops beneath its eyes.)

= এবার দিকে তাকালো এবং মূর্তির চোখের নিচে জল দেখে অবাক হয়ে গেল ।    (amazed- অ্যামেজড)

Swallow : Who are you? Why are you crying?

=   তুমি কে ? তুমি কেন কাঁদছো ?

Statue :  I’m the Happy Prince. I spent my life in a palace.

= আমি সুখী রাজপুত্র । আমি রাজপ্রাসাদে আমার জীবন কাটিয়েছি ।

Now I am dead, and a statue. I stand in the middle of this town.

= এখন আমি মৃত মূর্তি হয়ে গেছি । আমি এই শহরের মাঝখানে দাঁড়িয়ে আছি ।

I  can see the poor people and all the ugly things in  my land.

= আমি আমার দেশে গরিব মানুষ এবং যতখুশি জিনিস দেখতে পাচ্ছি ।    (ugly-আগলি)

Swallow : I see you have a golden heart.

= আমি দেখছি তোমার হৃয়দটি সোনার ।

Statue  : My feet are fixed here. I cannot move. Please help me, little Swallow.

= মূর্তি : আমার পা-দুটো এখানে আটকানো আছে । আমি নড়তে পারছি না । = ছোট্ট সোয়ালো দয়াকরে আমাকে সাহায্য কর ।   (fixed-ফিক্সড)

[ The stage is darkened. Only the Happy Prince’s voice is heard.]

= মঞ্চ আবার অন্ধকার হয়ে আসে ।  শুধু সুখী রাজপুত্রের কণ্ঠস্বর শোনা যায় ।

Statue  : There is a poor house in a little street. A woman is making a dress fora beautiful, young  lady ofthe palace. The woman is poor and her son is suffering from fever. Swallow, take the ruby  from my sword- hilt and give it to her.

= ছোট্ট রাস্তার ওপরে একটি দরিদ্র মানুষের বাড়ি রয়েছে ।  একজন স্ত্রীলোক প্রাসাদের সুন্দরী যুবতী মহিলার  জন্য সুন্দর একটি পোশাক তৈরি করছে । = মহিলাটি দরিদ্র এবং তার ছেলে জ্বরে ভুগছে। =  চাতক, আমার তরবারির হাতল থেকে চুনিটা নাও এবং সেটি তাকে দাও ।     (sword-hilt-সোওর্ড-হিল্ট)

The stage is lit again. The light is blue. Close to the right wing, there stands now an open

cottage made of cardboard. There is a backdoor to the cottage far entry from the right wing.

curtain hangs in front of the cottage]

= মঞ্চ আবার আলোকিত হল এবার নীল রঙের আলো ডানদিকের পথের ফাঁকে একটি খোলা ঘর দেখা গেল বাড়ির পিছনের দরজা আছে ডান দিকের পথ দিয়ে ঢোকার জন্য বাড়ির সামনে একটি পর্দা ঝুলছে।

Swallow : But all my friends have flown to Egypt. I cannot delay. It’s too cold here.

= কিন্তু আমার সব বন্ধুরা মিশরে উড়ে চলে গেছে ।আমি দেরি করতে পারব না ।  এখানে খুব ঠান্ডা     (delay- ডিলে)(flown- ফ্লোওন)

Statue  : Swallow, little Swallow, please stay with me for one night.

= = চাতক, ছোট্ট চাতক, দয়াকরে আমার সঙ্গে এক রাতের জন্য থাকো ।

Part-2

Swallow: I feel sorry looking at you. I don’t say no to people. I will help you.

= তোমাকে দেখে আমার দুঃখ হচ্ছে । আমি লোকেদের না বলতে পারি না  । আমি তোমাকে সাহায্য করবো ।

[ The Swallow removes the ruby from the hilt with its mouth. He makes a motion of flying with its arms. He goes up to the cottage, removes the curtain. Inside the cottage, mother is tired and has fallen asleep. Her son is tossing in fever. The Swallow puts the ruby down near her hand. Then he comes out and draws the curtain. He flaps his arms in flight and returns to the Happy Prince ]

= চাতক মুখ দিয়ে তরবারির হাতল থেকে চুনিটা খুলে নিল । সে হাত দিয়ে ওড়ার মতো ভঙ্গি করল । সে কুটির দিকে গেল ও পর্দাটি সরালো ।  কুটিরের ভিতরে মা ক্লান্ত হয়ে ঘুমিয়ে পড়েছে ।   তার ছেলে জ্বরে ছটফট করছে।  (tossing- টসিং) চাতক তার হাতের কাছে চুনিটি নামিয়ে রাখল । তারপর সে বেরিয়ে এল এবং পর্দাটি টানলো ।সে ওড়ার মতো করে হাত নাড়লো এবং সুখি রাজপুত্রের কাছে ফিরে এলো ।

Swallow: It’s cold night. But strange, I am feeling warm.

= চাতক: রাতটা ঠান্ডার । কিন্তু আশ্চর্য আমার বেশ গরম বোধ হচ্ছে ।     (strange-স্ট্রেজ্ঞ)

Statue: That happens when you do something good to help someone. [ Stage light changes to yellow  ]

মূর্তি : কাউকে সাহায্য করতে ভালো কিছু করলে এমনটা ঘটে ।  (   মঞ্চের আলো   পাল্টে হলো হলদে হল)

Swallow : I will leave foe Egypt tonight. I will stay with you through the day.

= আমি আজ রাত্রেই মিশরের জন্য রওনা হব। আমি সারাটা দিন তোমার সঙ্গে থাকবো ।

Statue: Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow, please stay with me for one more night.

=  চাতক , চাতক , ছোট্ট চাতক আর একটা রাত আমার সঙ্গে থাকো ।

Swallow: But all my friends are waiting for me. Tomorrow they are going to fly up river Nile to Luxor.

= কিন্তু আমার সব বন্ধুরা আমার জন্য অপেক্ষা করছে। আগামীকাল তারা নীলনদের উপর দিয়ে লাক্সার শহরের দিকে উড়ে যেতে চলেছে ।

Statue: Far away in little attic, I see brown-haired young man. He is unhappy and poor. He is wearing a paly for the theater. Little Swallow, take one of my sapphire eyes and give it to him.

= অনেক দূরের ছোট্ট চিলেকোঠায়, আমি একটি বাদামি চুলের যুবককে দেখতে পাচ্ছি ।  (attic- অ্যাটিক) সে অসুখী ও দরিদ্র সে রঙ্গমঞ্চের জন্য একটি নাটক লিখছে ।     (theater- থিয়েটার ) = ছোট চাতক আমার একটি নীলকান্তমণি চোখ নিয়ে যাও এবং তাকে দাও।

Swallow: Dear Prince, I can’t do that!

= প্রিয় রাজপুত্র আমি তা করতে পারবোনা ।

Statue: Swallow, little Swallow, you must.

= চাতক ছোট্ট চাতক তোমায় অবশ্যই করতে হবে।

[ The Swallow takes a sapphire from one of the prince’s blue eye and makes motion of flying, goes to the cardboard cottage. The Swallow removes the curtain. The stage light changes to blue. The playwright is revealed. He sits holding his head in his hands. There is pen and paper by his side. The swallow quietly leaves the sapphire beside the young playwright. The young playwright discovers the rich stone soon after the Swallow leaves. He is overjoyed.

= রাজপুত্রের নীল চোখ থেকে চাতক একটি নীলকান্ত মনি খুলে নিল এবং ওড়ার মতো ভঙ্গি করে কার্ডবোর্ডের কুটির দিকে গেল ।  (motion-মোশন) চাতক পর্দাটি সরালো  । মঞ্চের আলো পাল্টে নীল হয়ে গেল। নাট্যকারকে দেখা গেল ।   (revelaed-রিভিলড) সে তার দুহাতের মধ্যে মাথা দিয়ে বসে রয়েছে । তার পাশে কাগজ ও কলম রয়েছে । চাতক তরুণ নাট্যকারের পাশে নিঃশব্দে নীলকান্তমণিটি রেখে গেল। তরুণ নাট্যকারটি চাতকের ঠিক চলে যাওয়ার পরেই দামি পাথরটি দেখতে পেল । সে অত্যন্ত আনন্দিত হল  । (overjoyed– ওভার জয়েড)

Playwright : Someone likes my work a lot! Now I can finish my play.

= কেউ একজন আমার লেখা খুব পছন্দ করে । এখন আমি আমার নাটক শেষ করতে পারব ।

[ The Swallow returns to the Happy Prince. He is resting on the pedestal-shaped box on which stands the Happy Prince. The cottage curtain has been pulled by the young playwright without being visible  to the audience. He left through the cottage bock-door and the right wing exit.]

= চাতক সুখি রাজপুত্রের কাছে ফিরে এলো ।  বেদীর মত যে বাক্সের উপর সুখি রাজপুত্র দাঁড়িয়ে সেখানে সে বিশ্রাম নেয়। কুটিরের পর্দা নাট্যকার দ্বারা এমনভাবে টানা হয় যাতে দর্শকদের কাছে তাকে দেখা না যায় । সে কুটিরের  ডানদিকের প্রস্থান পথ দিয়ে বেরিয়ে যায়।

Swallow  : I’m here to say goodbye.

= আমি এখানে বিদায় জানাতে এসেছি ।

The stage light changes to yellow]

= মঞ্চের আলো পাল্টে হলদে হয়।

Statue  : I see a poor little girl in the town square. She has no shoes. Little Swallow, please

give her the sapphire remaining in my other eye.

=  আমি শহরের চত্বরে একটি ছোট্ট গরীব মেয়েকে দেখতে পাচ্ছি। তার জুতো নেই । ছোট্ট চাতক, দয়াকরে  আমার অন্য চোখের অবশিষ্ট নীলকান্ত মনিটই তাকে দিয়ে এসো । (remaining-রিমেনিং)

Swallow  : Impossible! I can’t make you blind.

= অসম্ভব আমি তোমাকে অন্ধ করে দিতে পারি না ।

Part-3

Statue:   Please help me, little Swallow!

= মূর্তি : দয়া করে আমাকে সাহায্য কর ছোট্ট চাতক ।

The Swallow plucks the other sapphire from the prince’s eye. He goes to the cardboard cottage and removes the curtain. A little girl is discovered weeping inside. The Swallow flaps its arms and goes in. He drops the sapphire into the girl’s hand.)

= চাতকটি রাজপুত্রের অন্য চোখ থেকে নীলকান্ত মনিটর উপরে নিল । সে কার্ড বোর্ডের কুটিরে গেল এবং পর্দা সরালো । ভিতরে একটি ছোট মেয়েকে কাঁদতে দেখা গেল । চাতক হাত নাড়ার ভঙ্গি করল এবং ভিতরে গেল । সে নীলকান্ত মনিটী মেয়েটির হাতে ফেলে দিল।

Girl : That’s so nice!

= এটি খুবই সুন্দর।

 [ she looks up amazed. The Swallow flies out. He pulls the curtain back, flies to the Happy Prince. The stage light changes to blue)

= সে অবাক হয়ে তাকায় ।   (amazed- অ্যামেজড)  চাতকটি উড়ে গেল । সে পর্দাটি টেনে দিয়ে আবার সুখী রাজপুত্রের কাছে উড়ে গেল । মঞ্চের আলো পাল্টে নীল হলো ।

Swallow  : You are blind now, so I must stay with you always. But it’s too cold here.

চাতক: তুমি এখন অন্ধ । তাই আমি অবশ্যই তোমার সাথে সর্বদা থাকবো । কিন্তু এখানে বড্ড ঠান্ডা ।

না ছোট্ট চাতক তুমি অবশ্যই মিশরে রোদে উড়ে যাবে ।

Swallow  : I am staying with you.

=  আমি তোমার সঙ্গে থাকছি ।

Statue : Little Swallow, if you stay, fly over this land. Tell me what you see.

= ছোট চাতক তুমি যদি থাকো তাহলে এই দেশের উপর দিয়ে উড়ে যাও । তুমি কি দেখলে আমাকে বলো।

[ The stage goes dark. A blue spotlight tracks the Swallow. He is making a flying motion flapping his arms. He runs around the stage in a circle. The stage goes dark again, stays dark for four seconds. A red spotlight falls on a bunch of beggars in front of the stage, their clothes torn, they look hungry and miserable. Running, the Swallow crosses the stage before them flapping its arms, right wing to left wing. Stage darkens again. Blue stage light comes on immediately. The Swallow faces the Happy Prince from the left.)

= মঞ্চ অন্ধকার হয়ে গেল । একটি নীলস্পটলাইট চাতককে অনুসরণ করছে।  সে তার দুহাত নাড়িয়ে ওড়ার ভঙ্গি করছে সে ছুটে বেড়াচ্ছে । সে গোল হয়ে মঞ্চের চারপাশে ছুটে বেড়াচ্ছে  মঞ্চ আবার চার সেকেন্ডের জন্য অন্ধকার হয়ে গেল । একটি লাল স্পটলাইট মঞ্চের সামনে একদল ভিক্ষুকের ওপর পড়ল তাদের পোশাক ছাড়া তাদের ক্ষুধার্ত এবং পীড়িত দেখাচ্ছে ।     (miserable-মিজারেবল) চাতক দৌড়ে মঞ্চ অতিক্রম করল তার হাত নাড়তে নাড়তে ডানদিকের পার্শ্ব পথ থেকে বাম দিকের পার্শ্ব পথ ঘুরে তাদের সামনে গেল । মঞ্চ আবার অন্ধকার হয়ে গেল । মঞ্চের নীল আলো সঙ্গে সঙ্গে আবার এলো । চাতক বাম দিক থেকে সুখি রাজপুত্রের মুখোমুখি হল ।

Swallow  : I saw many unhappy and unfed people.

চাতক:  আমি অনেক অসুখী এবং অভুক্ত মানুষদের দেখলাম ।    (unfed-আনফেড)

Statue    Take all the gold from my body and give it to the poor people.

=  মূর্তি :  আমার শরীর থেকে সব সোনা খুলে নাও আর দরিদ্র মানুষগুলিকে সেগুলি দাও।

[ The Swallow makes a plucking motion with its mouth on the Happy Prince’s golden tunic. The stage darkens. The same beggars who appeared previously, are seen again clustered on stage. They are wearing good clothes, look better, they are eating and laughing. A single red spot light holds them on the dark stage. The stage darkens briefly, blue light comes on. The Swallow is discovered sitting on the pedestal -shaped box, leaning against the Happy Prince’s feet. He is looking unwell and drooping. The Happy Prince has given away all the gold on his body. He is wearing a grey tunic.)

= চাতক মুখ দিয়ে সুখি রাজপুত্রের সোনালী পোশাক খুলে নেয়ার ভঙ্গী করল । মঞ্চ অন্ধকার হয়ে গেল । মঞ্চের কিছু ভিখারীরা যাদের আগে দেখা গিয়েছিল তাদের আবার দলবদ্ধভাবে মঞ্চে দেখা গেল । তারা সুন্দর পোশাক পরে আছে, তাদের আরো ভালো দেখাচ্ছে , তারা খাচ্ছে এবং হাসছে । অন্ধকার মঞ্চের মধ্যে একটি মাত্র লাল স্পটলাইট তাদের ধরে রেখেছে । মঞ্চ আংশিক অন্ধকার হয়ে গেল তারপর নীল আলো দেখা গেল ।    (briefly-ব্রিফলি) চাতককে সুখি রাজপুত্রের পায়ে হেলান দিয়ে বেরি আকৃতির বাস খেয়ে বসে থাকতে দেখা গেল । তাকে অসুস্থ এবং ভেঙে পড়া দেখাচ্ছিল । সুখি রাজপুত্র তার দেহের সমস্ত সোনা দিয়ে দিয়েছে। সে একটি ধূসর পোশাক পড়ে রয়েছে ।

Swallow : Goodbye, my prince.

= বিদায় রাজপুত্র ।

Statue : Ah, good, you’re going to Egypt. I am happy about that.

= মূর্তি : ও ভালো তুমি মিশরে যাচ্ছ। আমি খুব খুশি এটা শুনে।

Swallow : I’m not going to Egypt! I’m going to the house of the brother of Sleep. The cold has got me. I’m dying!

চাতক : আমি মিশর যাচ্ছি না । আমি ঘুমের ভাইয়ের /দোসরের ঘরে চললাম । ঠান্ডা আমায় কাবু করেছে। আমি মারা যাচ্ছি।

[ The Swallow falls down on the pedestal-shaped box, its face expressing sorrow and lies crumpled  between the two legs of the Happy Prince. A sad music is played in the background. The stage light changes to yellow. Four people enter from the right wing led by an important-looking man in red coat and trousers. He is the Mayor of the town, he is accompanied by town councillors. They talk as they approach the statue.]

= চাতক বেদি আকৃতির বাক্সের উপর পড়ে গেল তার মুখে দুঃখের অভিব্যক্তি এবং সে সুখি রাজপুত্রের দুই পায়ের মাঝখানে দুমড়ে পড়ে আছে । নেপথ্যে / অন্তরালে করুন সঙ্গীত বাজছে। মঞ্চের আলো পাল্ট পাল্টে হলদে হয়ে গেল ।  ডান দিক দিয়ে লালকোট এবং ট্রাউজার পরা একজন গণ্যমান্য লোকের নেতৃত্বে চার জন লোক প্রবেশ করলো । তিনি শহরের নগর প্রধান, আর তার সঙ্গে নগর প্রতিনিধিরা রয়েছে । (accompanied- অ্যাকোমপ্যানিড, councilors-কাউনসিলরস) তারা কথা বলতে বলতে মূর্তির দিকে এগিয়ে গেল ।

Mayor : A dead bird at the feet of the statue of the Happy Prince! That’s very bad. We must make a new law. No bird can die in the town square, or near the Happy Prince.

= মেয়র :  সুখি রাজপুত্রের পায়ের কাছে একটি মৃত পাখি ।  এটা অত্যন্ত জঘন্য ।  আমরা একটা নতুন আইন তৈরি করব । কোন পাখি নগর চত্বরে বা সুখী রাজপুত্রের কাছে মরতে পারবেনা ।

[ One of the Town Councillors wrote this down in a note book. The others looked at the dead bird with great disapproval. The company looked up at the statue)

= নগর প্রতিনিধিদের একজন এটি নোট খাতায় লিখে নিল । অন্যরা মৃত পাখিটার দিকে অসমর্‌থনপূর্ন্ দৃষ্টিতে তাকিয়ে রইল । দলটি মূর্তির দিকে তাকালো ।

Mayor : Oh dear! What an ugly thing our prince is these days!

= মেয়র:  হা ভগবান! আমাদের সুখি রাজপুত্র কি কুৎসিত জিনিস না আজকাল হয়ে গেছে !

Town Councillor 1 : Where’s the ruby in his sword?

= তার তরবারির চুনিটি কোথায় ?

Town Councillor 2 :  Where are the sapphires in his eyes?

দ্বিতীয় পৌর প্রতিনিধি:  তার চোখের নীলকান্ত মনি গুলি কোথায় ?

Town Councillor 3 :  Where’s all his gold?

=  তৃতীয় পৌর প্রতিনিধি:  তার সব সোনা কোথায়?

Mayor :  He is no better than a beggar. I find him very ugly.

= তার অবস্থা ভিখারি চেয়ে ভালো নয় । আমার তো তাকে দেখে খুব কুৎসিত মনে হচ্ছে ।

Three Town Councillors (in chorus) : Yes, very ugly.

= তিনজন পৌর প্রতিনিধি :  হ্যাঁ খুব কুৎসিত

Mayor  : Take the statue away. It isn’t beautiful anymore.

=  মূর্তি থেকে সরিয়ে নাও । এটা সুন্দর নয়।

[ From the right wing comes out two people carrying a stretcher They come and stop before the Happy Prince. Mayor and the Town Councillors are looking up at the Happy Prince. The stretcher-bearers bring down the statue and put him on the stretcher. Mayor and company look on with great interest. The stretcher- bearers take the grey Happy Prince away.]

= ডানদিকের পার্শ্বপাত দিয়ে দুজন মানুষ একটি স্ট্রেচার নিয়ে এলো । তারা এসে সুখী রাজপুত্রের সামনে থামল । মেয়র এবং পারিষদরা সুখী রাত পুত্রের দিকে তাকায় । স্ট্রেচার বাহকেরা মূর্তিটিকে নামিয়ে স্টে্রচারের উপর লাগলো । মহা আগ্রহের সঙ্গে মেয়র এবং তার সঙ্গীরা দেখল । বাহকেরা ধূসর সুখী রাজপুত্র কে নিয়ে চলে গেল ।

Mayor : Take it to the furnace to melt. We will have a new statue.

= মেয়র: এটিকে চুল্লিতে নিয়ে গিয়ে গলিয়ে ফেলো । আমরা নতুন মূর্তি বানাবো ।

Three Councillors (in chorus) : A new statue!

= একটি নতুন মূর্তি ।

Mayor  : I want a statue of me.

= মেয়র : আমি আমার মূর্তি চাই ।

Three councillors (in chorus) : I want a statue of me.

তিনজন পারিষদ: আমি আমার মূর্তি চাই।

Mayor :  No, no I want a statue of me.

মেয়র:  না না আমি আমার মূর্তি চাই ।

Three councillors (in chorus) : No, no. I want a statue of me.

তিনজন পারিষদ: আমি আমার মূর্তি চাই।

[ The lights dim on stage. The stage is dark. A yellow spotlight falls on a person in white gown standing upon the pedestal-shaped box. He faces the audience. He is an angel. There are wings attached to his back, a silver crown on his head.]

= একটি হলুদ আলো বেরিয়ে আকারের বাক্সের উপর দাঁড়ানো সাদা পোশাক পরা একটি মানুষের উপর পড়ে । সে দর্শকদের দিকে মুখকরে । সে একজন দেবদূত। তার পিঠে ডান আটকানো আর মাথায় রুপোর মুটুক ।

Angel :    Forever will the Swallow sing from now in my garden. May the Happy Prince live in my city of gold forever!

= এখন থেকে এই চাতক আমার বাগানে গান করবে আর সুখী রাজপুত্র আমার নগরীতে বাস করবে ।

[ A light music is played in the background. Light dims. Curtain falls.]
