My School Days Bengali Meaning

Part-1

1) One morning I went to Ballygunge Government High School with my maternal uncle.

= একদিন সকালে আমি আমার মামার সঙ্গে বালিগঞ্জ গভর্নমেন্ট হাই স্কুলে গিয়েছিলাম । (maternal-ম্যাটারনাল)

2) The class teacher gave me a few questions to answer and also a few sums to solve.

= শ্রেণি শিক্ষক আমাকে কয়েকটি প্রশ্নের উত্তর করতে দিলেন এবং কয়েকটি অংক সমাধান করতে দিলেন।

3) I wrote the answers, solved the sums and showed them to the teacher.

= আমি উত্তর লিখেছিলাম, অঙ্কগুলির সমাধান করেছিলাম এবং সেগুলি শিক্ষককে দেখিয়েছিলাম।

4) He went through the answers and nodded.

= তিনি উত্তরগুলি দেখেছিলেন এবং মাথা নেড়েছিলেন।   ( nooded-নোডেড)

5) His gesture indicated that my answers were correct and thus I was admitted to the school.

7) The southern part of the school was our playground.

8) It was surrounded by a lofty wall.

= দেওয়াল সেটি এটি উঁচু পাঁচিল দিয়ে ঘেরা ।   (surrounded- সারাউন্ডেড )

9) When seen above, the school looked like the English letter “T”.

10) The vertical part of the “T” was the hall of the school and the horizontal part of the letter was formed by the row of classrooms. T

1) There were quite a number of good teachers in our school.

5) Before telling us the story, he taught us how the pronunciation of ‘the’ depends on whether the following word begins with a vowel or a consonant.

7) I don’t think anybody else could write Bengali more beautifully on the blackboard.

8) I was not very good at sports.

= আমি খেলাধুলায় খুব ভালো ছিলাম না

9) But I could draw very well.

10) As a result, I became the favourite of our drawing teacher, Ashubabu.

11) He was given the charge of decorating the hall for the annual prize-distribution ceremony.

12) He also conducted an event called ‘Music drawing’.

13) For this event, there would be a blackboard and coloured chalks on a table.

14) A student would sing a song and another would draw a picture on the blackboard, trying to capture in lines and colour the essence of the song.

15) In this way, through many such happy and memorable episodes, I spent six years of my school life.

18) The hall which had seemed enormous earlier, did not seem to be quite that big then.

19) Not only the hall, but even the doors, the classrooms, the benches and the corridor appeared to be much smaller.

21) I was five feet three inches tall when I left school and now I have grown to about six and a half feet.
