Chapter 2

AS YOU LIKE IT

(i)

1) The story begins at a time when France was divided into provinces or dukedoms.

= এই গল্পের শুরু যখন ফ্রান্স কয়েকটি প্রদেশে বা ডিউকশাসিত রাজ্যে বিভন্ত ছিল।

2) In one such province, there was a usurper, who had deposed and banished his elder brother, the lawful duke. 

= এমন এক রাজ্যে একজন দখলদার ডিউক ছিলেন যিনি তাঁর বড়ো ভাই অর্থাৎ বৈধ ডিউককে ক্ষমতাচ্যুত করেন এবং তাকে,

নির্বাসিত করেন।

(ii)

3) The duke, who was driven away from his kingdom by his younger brother, retired to the Forest of Arden along with his faithful followers.

= যে ডিউক ছোটো ভাই-এর দ্বারা তাঁর রাজত্ব থেকে বিতাড়িত হয়েছিলেন, তিনি আর্ডেন-এর অরণ্যে গিয়ে আশ্রয় নিলেন তাঁর বিশ্বস্ত অনুচরদের সঙ্জো।

4) These people soon got accustomed to the lazy life of the forest and they felt it to be more relaxing than the life of a court.

= তারা শীঘ্রই বনের অলস জীবনের সঙ্গে অভ্যন্ত হয়ে পড়েন এবং তারা এই জীবনকে রাজপ্রাসাদের জীবনের থেকে অনেক বেশি আনন্দদায়ক বলে মনে করতে শুরু করেন।

5) They led the life like that of Robin Hood of England, and to this forest many noble youths came and spent their leisure time as they did in the golden age.

= তাঁরা ইংল্যান্ডের রবিনহুডের মতো জীবন কাটাতেন এবং অরণ্যে অনেক মহান যুবক আসতেন  তাদের অবসর সময় কাটাতে যেমন তাঁরা স্বর্ণযুগে করতেন ।

6) In summer they took rest under the shade of the trees watching the playful sports of the forest-deer.

= গ্রীষ্মে তারা গাছের ছায়ায় বিশ্রাম করতে করতে বন্য হরিণের খেলা দেখতেন।

7) They even felt sad that they had to kill those deer for food.

= তারা ভেবে দুঃখ পেতেন যে খাবারের জন্য তাদের এই হরিণদের হত্যা করতে হত।

8) In winter when the cold wind blew, the duke sufferedfrom cold but said, “These chilling winds which blow upon my body are true counsellors: they do not flatter, but represent truly to me my condition; and though they bite sharply, their tooth is nothing like as keen as that of unkindness and ingratitude.”

= শীতে যখন ঠান্ডা বাতাস বইত, ডিউক ঠান্ডায় কষ্ট পেতেন কিন্তু তিনি বলতেন, “এই কনকনে বাতাস যেটা আমার উপর প্রবাহিত হচ্ছে, সেটাই আমার প্রকৃত উপদেক্টা। এরা স্তাবকতা করে না, কিন্তু আমার প্রকৃত অবস্থা আমাদের জ্ঞাপন করে; যদিও এদের কামড় তীক্ষ তাদের কামড় নিষ্ঠুরতা এবং অকৃতজ্ঞতার মতো এত যন্ত্রণাদায়ক নয়।”

9) He remarked that men might sayagainst adversities but there are some uses of of a poisonous toad.

= তিনি বলতেন যে, মানুষ প্রতিকুলতাকে অপছন্দ করতে পারে কিন্তু এর কিছু ভালো দিক রয়েছে ঠিক যেমন বিষাক্ত ব্যাঙের মাথা থেকে জীবনদায়ী ওষুধ পাওয়া যায়।

10) In this way the duke drew lessons from nature and he found tongues in trees, books in the flowing streams, sermons in stones and good in everything. 

= এইভাবে ডিউক প্রকৃতির থেকে শিক্ষা গ্রহণ করতেন, গাছের মাঝে ভাষা খুঁজে পেতেন, প্রবহমান নদীর মধ্যে খুঁজে পেতেন বই, পাথরের গায়ে ধর্মীয় বাণী এবং সব কিছুর মাঝে ভালো কিছু খুঁজে পেতেন।

11) The banished duke had a daughter named Rosalind and like her father, she was also thrown out of the dukedom.

= নির্বাসিত ডিউক-এর রোজালিন্ড নামে একজন কন্যা ছিল এবং তার বাবার মতো সেও রাজত্বের উত্তরাধিকার থেকে বঞ্চিত ছিল।

12)  But, she still remained in the palace being the companion of Celia, the present duke’s daughter.

= কিন্তু সে সেই প্রাসাদে বর্তমান ডিউক-এর কন্যা সিলিয়া-র সাথী হয়ে রয়ে গিয়েছিল।

13) The discord between the duke and his brother did not at all affect the friendship between the two sisters.

= ডিউক এবং তার ভাই-এর মধ্যে বিবাদ অবশ্য দু-বোনের সম্পর্ককে প্রভাবিত করতে পারেনি।

14)  In fact, Celia tried to comfort Rosalind whenever she became sad thinking of her father. 

= আসলে, যখনই সে তার বাবার কথা ভেবে দুঃখ পেত, সিলিয়া তাকে সান্ত্বনা দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করত।

(iv)

15) One day, when Celia was talking to Rosalind in her usual kind manner, a messenger came with the news that there would be a wrestling match and they could go and watch that if they so wanted.

= একদিন যখন সিলিয়া রোজালিন্ড-এর সঙ্গে স্বভাবসিদ্ধ সহৃদয়তার সঙ্গে কথা বলছিল, তখন একজন বার্তাবাহক সেখানে খবর নিয়ে এলেন যে একটা কুস্তি হতে চলেছে এবং তারা চাইলে গিয়ে দেখতে পারে।

16) Celia agreed to go thinking that it would amuse Rosalind. 

= সিলিয়া যেতে রাজি হল এই ভেবে যে এটা রোজালিন্ডকে আনন্দ দেবে।

17) During those times, wrestling matches were viewed by noble ladies and princesses being a favourite sport of princes.

= সেই সময়, মহিলা এবং রাজকুমারীরা কুস্তি দেখতে পছন্দ করতেন।

18) But here they thought that they would face a tragedy as a practiced wrestler was to fight an inexperienced young man. 

= কিন্তু তারা ভাবল যে তারা এবার এক মর্মান্তিক ঘটনার সাক্ষী হতে চলেছে কারণ একজন দক্ষ কুস্তিবীরের সঙ্গে একজন অনভিজ্ঞ যুবকের লড়াই হতে চলেছে।

19) When the duke saw that both the ladies had come to watch such an uneven match between a practiced wrestler and a young man, the duke asked them to dissuade the young man from fighting.

= যখন ডিউক দেখলেন যে দুজন রাজকুমারী এই অসম লড়াই দেখতে এসেছে, ডিউক তখন তাদেরকে বললেন ওই যুবককে বুঝিয়ে লড়াই থেকে বিরত করতে।

20) At first Celia tried to resist the youth from taking up such an unequal challenge and then Rosalind by her kind words tried to change his mind from the ensuing fight.

= প্রথমে সিলিয়া ওই যুবককে লড়াই-এর সিদ্ধান্ত থেকে বিরত করতে চেষ্টা করল।

21) But after hearing the entreaties of the ladies, the youth became all the more determined to prove his valour in front of the fair ladies.

= কিন্তু এই যুবতিদের আবেদন শুনে, ওই যুবক সুন্দরীদের সামনে তার বীরত্ব প্রমাণ করার জন্য আরও দৃঢ়সংকল্প হয়ে গেল।

22) He refused to listen to them but he said in such a  graceful manner that both the ladies became more concerned of him.

= সে তাদের কথা শুনতে অস্বীকার করল কিন্তু সে এত সুন্দরভাবে তা বলল যে দুজন যুবতির তাকে নিয়ে উদ্বেগ আরও বেড়ে গেল।

23) He said, “I am sorry to deny such fair and beautiful ladies anything.”

= সে বলল, “আমি দুঃখিত যে আপনাদের মতো সুন্দরী যুবতিদের অনুরোধ আমাকে অগ্রাহ্য করতে হচ্ছে।”

24) He also said that he would like the ladies to wish for him and if he was defeated, he would not be ashamed and, even if he was killed there was no one to lament for him in this world.

= সে আরও বলল যে সে খুশি হবে যদি যুবতিরা তার জন্য শুভেচ্ছা জানায়; সে যদি পরাজিত হয়, তাহলে লঙ্জিত হবে না, আর যদি সে মারাও যায় তাহলে তার জন্য দুঃখ করার এই পৃথিবীতে কেউ নেই।

25)  He said that he was only a person who filled up a space in this world and it would be better supplied if he vacated his space. 

= সে বলল যে সে এমন একজন যে কেবলমাত্র অবাস্থিতভাবে এই পৃথিবীতে একটা জায়গা দখল করে আছে এবং সেই জায়গা শূন্য হয়ে গেলেই তা ভালো হবে।

(vii)

26) The wrestling match began. Celia wished that the youth would not be hurt during the bout.

= কুস্তি শুরু হল, সিলিয়া প্রার্থনা করতে লাগল যেন ওই যুবক লড়াই-এ কোনোভাবে আহত না হয়।

27) But Rosalind was more concerned.

= কিন্তু রোজালিন্ড আরও বেশি উদ্বিগ্ন হল।

28) She had an inclination towards him because she felt pity for his friendless condition.

= রোজালিন্ড-এর তার প্রতি একটু বেশি দুর্বলতা ছিল কারণ তার নিঃসঙ্গ অবস্থার কথা জেনে রোজালিন্ড -এর সহানুভূতি হল।

29) It seemed that she had almost fallen in love for him. 

= মনে হতে লাগল যেন সে এই যুবককে ভালোবেসেই ফেলেছিল।

(viii)

30) The inspiration that the youth got from the ladies worked wonders for him and he defeated his opponent in such a way that for some time he could not even talk.

= যুবকটি যে অনুপ্রেরণা ওই যুবতিদের কাছ থেকে পেয়েছিল, তা অদ্ভুত ফল নিয়ে এল এবং সে তার প্রতিদ্বন্দবীকে এমনভাবে পরাজিত করল যে কিছুক্ষণের জন্য সে আর কোনো কথাই বলতে পারল না।

31) The duke Frederick was very pleased with the youth’s skill and courage and wanted to know more about him. 

= ডিউক ফ্রেডারিক এই যুবকের সাহস ও দক্ষতা দেখে মুগ্ধ হলেন এবং তার পরিচয় জানতে চাইলেন।

(ix)

32) The youth introduced himself as Orlando, the youngest son of Sir Rowland de Boys.

= যুবক নিজেকে অরল্যান্ডো বলে পরিচয় দিল, যে স্যার ‘রাউল্যান্ড ডি বয়েজ-এর সস্তান।

33)  Sir Rowland de Boys was dead.

= স্যার রাউল্যান্ড ডি বয়েজ মারা গিয়েছিলেন।

34) But when he was alive, he was a friend of the banished duke.

= কিন্তু যখন তিনি বেঁচে ছিলেন, তিনি নির্বাসিত ডিউক-এর বন্ধু ছিলেন।

35)  So on hearing that Orlando was his son, the duke was displeased and wished he had been the son of someone else. 

= যখন ডিউক শুনলেন যে অরল্যান্ডো তার ছেলে তখন তিনি অসন্তুষ্ট হলেন এবং বললেন যে সে অন্য কারও সন্তান হলে তিনি খুশি হতেন।

36) Rosalind was very happy to hear that Orlando was the son of one of her father’s favourite and confessed to Celia, “My father loved Sir Rowland de Boys, and if I had known that’ Orlando was his son, I would have added tears to my entreaties before he should have ventured.”

= রোজালিন্ড খুশি হল এই জেনে যে অরল্যান্ডো তার বাবার একজন বন্ধুর ছেলে এবং সিলিয়ার কাছে স্বীকার করল, “আমার বাবা স্যার রাউলান্ড ডি বয়েজকে ভালোবাসতেন এবং আমি যদি জানতাম যে অরল্যান্ডো তার ছেলে, তাহলে চোখের জল ফেলে তাকে অনুরোধ করতাম।”

37) The ladies went to him and seeing that he was sad due to the displeasure jf the duke, spoke to him kindly and Rosalind even gave him her chain from her neck and said that had she not been out of fortune, she would have given him a more valuable gift. 

= রাজকুমারীরা তার কাছে গেল এবং যখন দেখল যে ডিউক-এর ব্যবহারে সে কষ্ট পেয়েছে তখন তারা তার সঙ্গে সহানুভূতির সঞ্জো কথা বলল; এমনকি রোজালিভ্ড তার গলার হারটি খুলে অরল্যান্ডোকে পরিয়ে দিয়ে বলল যে, তার ক্ষমতা থাকলে সে তাকে এর থেকে বেশি মূল্যবান উপহার দিত।

38) When the cousin sisters were alone, they talked of the young wrestler.

= যখন এই দুই বোন একা ছিল, তারা এই যুবকের সম্পর্কে আলোচনা করতে লাগল।

39) Celia thought that Rosalind must have fallen in love with Orlando and she said, “Is it possible that you should fall in love so suddenly?”

= সিলিয়া ভাবল যে রোজালিভ্ড নিশ্চয়ই অরল্যান্ডোকে ভালোবেসে ফেলেছে। সে বলল, “তা কী করে হয় যে এত তাড়াতাড়ি তুমি তাকে ভালোবেসে ফেললে?”

40) Rosalind replied, “The duke, my father, loved his father dearly.”

= রোজালিন্ড উত্তর দিল, “আমার বাবা, পুরনো ডিউক যে তার বাবাকে খুব ভালোবাসতেন।”

41)  Celia then remarked that though her father had displeasure for young Orlando she herself did not feel so. 

= সিলিয়া তখন মন্তব্য করল যে যদিও তার বাবা এই যুবক অরল্যান্ডোর প্রতি বিরূপ, তাই বলে সে তো অরল্যান্ডোর প্রতি এমন মনোভাব পোষণ করেনি।

42) Frederick was enraged at the sight of Sir Rowland de Boys’ son.

= স্যার রাউল্যান্ড ডি বয়েজ-এর ছেলেকে দেখে ফ্রেডারিক ভীষণ রেগে গেলেন।

 43) It reminded him of the many friends of the banished duke.

= তার মনে পড়ে গেল যে নির্বাসিত ডিউক-এর কত অনুগামী তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিলেন।

44) He was lately displeased with Rosalind as she was praised for her virtues and the people pitied her for her father.

= তিনি সম্প্রতি রোজালিন্ড-এর প্রতি অসন্তুষ্ট ছিলেন কারণ সকলে তার গুণের প্রশংসা করত এবং মানুষ তার বাবার দুর্ভাগ্যের কথা বলে তার প্রতি সহানুভূতি প্রকাশ করত।

45)  Now, all of a sudden, Frederick became angry and he entered the room of the ladies while they were still discussing about Orlando.

= এখন হঠাৎই ডিউক এইসব ভেবে ভীষণ রেগে গেলেন এবং তিনি রাজকুমারীদের ঘরে হঠাৎই প্রবেশ করলেন যারা তখনও অরল্যান্ডোর সম্পর্কে আলোচনা করছিল।

46) So he ordered Rosalind to join her father in the forest.

= তিনি রোজালিন্ডকে আদেশ করলেন তার বাবার কাছে বনে চলে যেতে।

47) Celia pleaded in favour of her sister her but the duke turned a deaf ear to any such requests, He said, “She is too subtle for you, her smoothness, her very silence, and her patience speak to the people, and they pity her.

= সিলিয়া তার বোনের হয়ে ডিউক-এর কাছে অনুরোধ করল কিন্তু ডিউক এই অনুরোধে কোনো কর্ণপাত করলেন না। তিনি বললেন “ওর ধূর্ততা বোঝার ক্ষমতা তোমার নেই। ওর কোমল স্বভাব, ওর নীরবতা, ওর ধৈর্য মানুষের মন কেড়ে নেয় এবং তারা তার প্রতি সহানুভূতি প্রকাশ করে।

48) You are a fool to plead for her, for you will seem more bright and virtuous when she is gone; therefore don’t speak for her; and the decision that I have taken is irrevocable.” 

= তুমি বোকা বলেই ওর হয়ে অনুরোধ করছ; ভেবে দ্যাখো ও না থাকলেই তোমার গুণ এবং প্রতিভা অন্যদের অনেক বেশি চোখে পড়বে। তাই ওর হয়ে আমাকে কোনো অনুরোধ করতে এসো না; আর মনে রেখো আমি যে সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছি তা পরিবর্তন করা

যাবে না।”

(xiii)

49) When Celia could not change her father’s mind to keep Rosalind in the palace, she decided to accompany Rosalind to the Forest of Arden in search of her father.

= যখন সিলিয়া রোজালিন্ডকে প্রাসাদে রাখার ব্যাপারে তার বাবাকে রাজি করাতে পারল না, তখন সে তার সঙ্গে আর্ডেন-এর অরণ্যে যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল।

50) Before they set out, they decided to change their clothes as it would be unsafe for two young ladies to travel alone in rich attire.

= বেরোনোর আগে তারা সিদ্ধান্ত নিল যে তারা তাদের পোশাক বদলে ফেলবে কারণ দুজন যুবতির এমন দামি পোশাক-আশাক পরে যাত্রা করা মোটেই নিরাপদ হবে না।

51) Rosalind thought that one could disguise herself as a male and since she was taller than Celia, she decided to dress as a country lad and Celia could dress as country lass; and they would introduce themselves as brother and sister.

= রোজালিম্ড ভাবল যে তাদের একজন পুরুষের ছন্বেশ ধারণ করলে ভালো হবে। যেহেতু সে সিলিয়ার থেকে বেশি লম্বা, তাই একজন গ্রামের যুবকের ছন্মবেশ ধারণ করবে এবং সিলিয়া একজন গ্রাম্য যুবতির ছন্মবেশ ধারণ করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিল; তারা নিজেদের ভাইবোন বলে পরিচয় দেবে।

52) Rosalind would call herself as Ganymede and Celia would be called Aliena. 

= রোজালিন্ড-এর নাম হবে গ্যানিমিড এবং সিলিয়া-র নাম হবে আ্যালিয়েনা।

(xiv)

53) In this disguise, with money and their jewels, they set out on their journey to the Forest of Arden, a long way from the duke’s kingdom.

= এই ছদ্মবেশে কিছু টাকা এবং অলংকার নিয়ে তারা আর্ডেন-এর অরণ্যের পথে যাত্রা করল যেটা ডিউক-এর রাজত্ব থেকে ছিল অনেক দূরে।

54) The lady Rosalind, Ganymede, in accordance to her dress put on an attitude to her sister, who left the luxury of the palace for their true love to each other.

= রোজালিন্ড, অর্থাৎ এখন গ্যানিমিড, তার ছদ্মবেশের সঙ্গে সংগতি রেখেই তার বোনের প্রতি বড়ো দাদার মতো আচরণ. করতে লাগল যে তাদের পারস্পরিক ভালোবাসার জন্য প্রাসাদের বিলাসবহুল জীবনকে ত্যাগ করে এসেছে।

55)  So they walked along, Rosalind showing a cheerful spirit as if he was the real Ganymede, the rustic and stout -hearted brother of the gentle village maiden, Aliena. 

= তাই তারা হাটতে লাগল; রোজালিন্ডকে বেশ উৎফুল্ল মেজাজে দেখা গেল যেন সে শাস্ত গ্রাম্য তরুণী ত্যালিয়েনার ডাকাবুকো দাদা।

56) When they reached the Forest of Arden, they did not get the inns or food or the good accommodation that they had got till then.

= যখন তারা আর্ডেন-এর অরণ্যে পৌছাল, তারা উপযুক্ত সরাইখানা, খাবার অথবা ভালো থাকার জায়গা পেল না যা তারা এতক্ষণ পেয়ে এসেছিল।

57) Ganymede who had hitherto cheered her sister confessed that she could cry out of fatigue and hunger.

= গ্যানিমিড, যে এতক্ষণ তার বোনকে আনন্দ দিয়ে এসেছিল, স্বীকার করল যে সে এবার ক্লান্তি বা খিদেতে কেঁদেই ফেলবে।

58) When Aliena declared that she could walk no further, Rosalind tried to find out where they could get rest and food.

= যখন ত্যালিয়েনা জানাল যে সে আর হাঁটতে পারবে না, তখন তারা বিশ্রাম এবং খাবারের উপযুক্ত জায়গা খুঁজতে লাগল।

59) But they were certain that they were lost.

= কিন্তু তারা বুঝতে পারল যে তারা বনের মধ্যে পথ হারিয়েছে।

60) Just then they met a countryman and asked him where they could get some food and a place to rest in exchange of money or gold.

= ঠিক তখন তাদের সঙ্গে এক গ্রামবাসীর দেখা হল এবং তারা তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল যে কোথায় তারা অর্থ বা সোনার বিনিময়ে খাবার এবং একটু বিশ্রামের উপযুক্ত ব্যবস্থা করতে পারবে।

61) He said that he was the servant of a shepherd who was going to sell off his house and so they did not iave much to entertain them.

=  সে বলল সে একজন মেষ পালকের ভূত্য যে তার বাড়িটা বিক্রি করে দিতে চলেছে তাই তাদের আপ্যায়ন করার মতো অবস্থা তাদের নেই।

62)  But if they wanted they were welcome to their house.

= তবুও তারা চাইলে সেখানে যেতে পারে।

63) They followed the man and bought the house and the sheep and also took the man to wait on them.

= তারা মানুষটিকে অনুসরণ করল এবং সেই বাড়িটি এবং ভেড়াগুলোকে কিনে ফেলল এবং ওই মানুষটিকে তাদের ভূত্য হিসেবে রেখে দিল।

64) Thus, they decided to stay till they could find the part of the forest where the banished duke stayed with his followers. 

= এইভাবে তারা সিদ্ধান্ত নিল যে নির্বাসিত ডিউক বনের কোন্‌ অংশে থাকেন তা খুঁজে না বার করা পর্যস্ত তারা এখানেই থাকবে।

(xiii)

65) The two sisters settled in their new cottage life very comfortably and fancied themselves to be the shepherd and shepherdess.

= দুইবোন তাদের কুটিরের নতুন জীবনে স্বাচ্ছন্দ্য বোধ করতে লাগল এবং নিজেদেরকে মেষপালক এবং মেষপালিকা বলে কল্পনা করতে লাগল।

66) Yet sometimes Ganymede remembered the youth Orlando and thought that he was so far away from her.

= তবুও গ্যানিমিডের যুবক অরল্যান্ডোর কথা মনে পড়ে যেতে লাগল এবং সে ভাবল এখন সে তার থেকে কত দুরে।

67) But it soon came to light that he was also in the Forest of Arden following certain circumstances. 

= কিন্তু শীঘ্রই বোঝা গেল যে কিছু ঘটনার পরিপ্রেক্ষিতে সেও আর্ডেন-এর বনেই আছে।

68) Orlando was the younger son of Sir Rowland de Boys and when he died he placed Orlando in the custody of his elder son requesting him to bring up his brother with proper care.

82) Orlando could not comprehend what the matter was and the servant explained to him the reason for his concern stating the plan of his brother to burn him in his own chamber.

86) The two, master and servant, travelled long till they reached the Forest of Arden and they were also as tired and hungry as the two sisters had been.

87) They tried in vain to find a shelter and food and at last, when Adam could go no further Orlando carried him in his arms to the shelter of a tree and cheered him saying, “Good old man, rest your weary limbs here awhile, and do not talk of dying!”

88) Orlando then searched for food and by chance came upon the company of the duke and his friends.

89) When Orlando reached there, it was dinner time.

96) The duke spoke to him kindly and asked him to sit down for dinner.

= ডিউক তার প্রতি সহানুভূতি প্রকাশ করলেন এবং তীদের সঙ্গে নৈশভোজে বসতে বললেন।

97) Orlando then spoke of Adam and declared that though he was hungry he would not touch food unless Adam was fed.

= অরল্যান্ডো তখন অ্যাডামস র কথা বলল এবং জানাল যে যদিও সে নিজে ভীষণ ক্ষুধার্ত তবুও অ্যাডামস কে না খাইয়ে সে কিছুতেই খাবার স্পর্শ করবে না।

98) The duke told him to bring his friend and said that they would wait for them.

= ডিউক তাকে বললেন বন্ধুকে সেখানে নিয়ে আসতে এবং জানালেন যে তারা ততক্ষণ সেখানে অপেক্ষা করবেন।

99)  Orlando went quickly, brought the old man and then both of them along with the duke had food to their satisfaction. Adam, on having food, regained his lost strength.

100) After the dinner, the duke asked Orlando about him and when he came to know that Orlando was his friend’s son, he took Orlando and Adam under his care.

101) After a few days while roaming in the forest, Ganymede and Aliena were surprised to see Rosalind’s namecarved on the bark of the trees and love sonnets, all addressed to Rosalind, attached to them.

102) When they were wondering how it was possible in the forest to have Rosalind’s name carved, they met Orlando and could easily recognize him as he was wearing the chain, given earlier by Rosalind, around his neck.

105) Rosalind, on the other hand, teased him saying that she was in search of a certain youth who had spoiled the bark of trees by writing the name of his ladylove and attaching love poems to that effect.

106) And she declared that if she found the lover she would have given him some advice.

108)  Rosalind asked him to come to their cottage to play a game in which Rosalind in her male attire would feign to be his ladylove with all sorts of feminine pranks and whims; and Orlando would woo her as a genuine lover.

109) When he would experience the whimsicality of the young lady loves, he would be ashamed of his love for her and thus be cured of love.

110)  So, as fixed, everyday Orlando came over to the cottage and wooed Ganymede as Rosalind; but it did not seem that Rosalind made any progress in curing Orlando of his love for Rosalind.

= তাই সেই কথামতো অরল্যান্ডো প্রতিদিন সেই কুটিরে এসে গ্যানিমিডকে রোজালিন্ড ভেবে প্রেমনিবেদন করতে লাগল, কিন্তু এতে রোজালিন্ড অরল্যান্ডোকে তার প্রেমরোগ সারাতে খুব বেশি সাহায্য করতে পারল বলে মনে হল না।

111) Rather, she felt highly satisfied and amused to know how truly Orlando loved her. 

= বরং সে মজা পেতে লাগল এবং খুশি হল জেনে যে অরল্যান্ডো তাকে সত্যিই এতটা ভালোবাসে।

112) The days passed pleasantly in this manner.

113) Aliena, seeing Ganymede happy, did not remind her that the real reason for her coming to the forest was to find her father; though, by that time, from Orlando they had already got the location of the place where her father, the banished duke, was residing.

114)  However, one day, Ganymede met her father but did not disclose to him her true identity.

115) When asked about it she said that she came of a good lineage as he did.

117) One morning, when Orlando was going to visit Ganymede, he saw a man lying asleep on the ground and a snake twisted round his neck.

118) As he approached the snake glided away from the man.

= সে যেই এগিয়ে গেল সাপটা আস্তে আস্তে চলে গেল।

119) Then as Orlando went closer, he perceived a lioness in the bush, waiting for its prey to awake because lions don’t attack the dead.

= যখন সে আরও কাছে গেল তখন সে দেখতে পেল যে একটা সিংহী ঝোপের আড়ালে ওৎ পেতে বসে রয়েছে, কারণ সিংহী মৃতকে আক্রমণ করে না।

120) When Orlando looked at the face of the man, he saw that the man was his own brother, Oliver, who had tried to get rid of him.

= যখন সে মানুষটির মুখ দেখল সে দেখতে পেল যে মানুষটি আসলে তার সেই নিজের ভাই যে তাকে হত্যা করতে চেয়েছিল।

121) He was about to go but brotherly affection prevented him to leave his brother in that danger.

= সে একবার ভাবল সেখান থেকে সে চলে যাবে, কিন্তু তার ভ্রাতৃন্সেহ তাকে নিজের ভাইকে এমন বিপদের মুখে ফেলে যেতে দিল না।

122) He fought the lioness and saved the life of his brother.

= সে সিংহীর সঙ্গে লড়াই করে তার ভাইয়ের প্রাণ বাঁচাল।

123) Thus he saved the life of his brother from the venomous snake and the dangerous lioness, but before he could save his brother the lioness had torn one of his arms with her sharp claws. 

= এভাবে সে তার ভাইয়ের জীবন একদিকে যেমন বিষধর সাপের হাত থেকে বাঁচাল তেমনি ভয়ংকর সিংহীর কাছ থেকেও তাকে বাঁচাল, কিন্তু সিংহীর সঙ্গে লড়াই করার সময় সিংহী তার তীক্ষ নখ দিয়ে তার একটি হাত আহত করে দিয়েছিল।

124) While Orlando was engaged in the fight, his brother awoke and saw how the brother, he had despised and abused so much, fought with his life to save him from the lioness.

= যখন সে লড়াই-এ ব্যস্ত ছিল তখন তার ভাই জেগে উঠল এবং দেখল কীভাবে তার ভাই যাকে সে ঘৃণা আর অবমাননা করে এসেছে সে নিজের জীবন বাজি রেখে তাকে বাঁচানোর জন্য সিংহীর সঙ্জো লড়াই করছে,

125) He was full of remorse and after Orlando had killed the lioness, Oliver begged his mercy.

= সে তখন অনুতপ্ত বোধ করল এবং অরল্যান্ডো সিংহীকে হত্যা করার পর, সে তার কাছে ক্ষমা চাইল।

126) Orlando seeing his brother repenting his deeds, readily forgave him and took him in his arms.

130) The sincere sorrow of Oliver was so overwhelming, that Aliena at once fell in love with him.

132) In the meantime, when Oliver and Aliena were exchanging hearts, Ganymede, on hearing about Orlando’s wounds, fainted.

133) When she recovered, she tried to convince Oliver that she had feigned the swoon as Rosalind would have done had she heard about the wounds of Orlando.

=যখন তার জ্ঞান ফিরল সে অলিভারকে বোঝানোর চেষ্টা করল যে অরল্যান্ডোর আহত হওয়ার খবর শুনে রোজালিন্ড যেমন

ভাবে মুর্ছিত হয়ে পড়বে, সে আসলে সেই অভিনয়টাই করছিল।

134) But Oliver was not convinced as he perceived how pale Ganymede had been and he said, “Well, if you did counterfeit, take a good heart, and counterfeit to be a man.”

= অলিভার অবশ্য এই কথায় খুব আশ্বস্ত হল না কারণ সে দেখেছিল কীভাবে তার মুখটা ফ্যাকাশে হয়ে গিয়েছিল। তাই সে বলল, “আচ্ছা বেশ, যদি তুমি ভান করেই থাকো, তাহলে পুরুষের ভূমিকায় অভিনয় করো।”

135)  Ganymede replied that it was exactly what she was doing and that she should have been a woman instead of being a man.

136) Oliver returned after a long time and told his brother of the swooning of Ganymede and also of his love towards the shepherdess, Aliena.

= অনেকক্ষণ পর অলিভার ফিরল এবং গ্যানিমিডের অজ্ঞান হয়ে যাওয়ার কথা তার ভাইকে বলল এবং আরও বলল ওই মেষপালিকা অর্থাৎ আযালিয়েনার প্রতি তার ভালোবাসার কথা।

137) He spoke in such a manner as if he had already decided upon his marriage to Aliena.

সে এমনভাবে বলল যেন আ্যালিয়েনার সঙ্গে বিয়ে করার ব্যাপারে সে ইতোমধ্যেই সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়ে ফেলেছে।

138) He also said that he would stay there in the forest and be a shepherd.

= সে আরও বলল যে সে একজন মেষপালক হয়েই এবার থেকে এই আর্ডেন-এর বনে থেকে যাবে।

139)  As regards his estate, he would give the same to Orlando as well as his home.

140) Orlando suggested that Oliver and Aliena should get married the next day and he would invite the duke to their marriage.
