( A )

1) It   once occurred¹to a certain² Tsar that if   he always knew the right time to begin  everything; if   he knew who were the right people to listen³ to, and whom to avoid⁴; and, above all, if he always knew what was the most important thing to do, he would never fail in anything he might undertake⁵.

=একদা হঠাৎ  জারের মনে হল যে তিনি সবকিছু ( কাজ ) শুরু করার  সঠিক সময় জানতেন, যদি তিনি জানতেন কোন লোকেদের কথা শুনবেন এবং  কোন লোকেদের এড়িয়ে চলবেন এবং  সর্বোপরি তিনি যদি  সর্বদা জানতেন যে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ন  কাজ কোনটি, তাহলে যে কাজের দায়িত্ব তিনি নিতেন তা কখনওই ব্যার্থ হত না ।।     (1.- আকার্ড; 2.-সার্টেন, 3.- লিসেন; 4.-অ্যাভোয়েড;5.- আন্ডারটেক )

2)And this thought having occurred to him, he had it proclaimed⁶ throughout his kingdom⁷ that he would give a great reward⁸ to anyone who would teach him what was the right time for every action, and who were the most necessary⁹ people, and   how    he   might know what was the most important thing to do.

=এই চিন্তা / ভাবনা  তার মাথায় আসবামাত্র  তিনি সারা রাজ্য জুড়ে  প্রচার করলেন যে তিনি  সেই ব্যাক্তি  কে বিপুল পুরস্কার দেবেন  যে তাকে শেখাবে / বলে দেবে প্রতিটি  কাজের সঠিক সময় কোনটি, সর্বাপেক্ষা প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যাক্তি কারা ,  এবং সর্বাপেক্ষা  গুরুত্বপূর্ন কাজ কোনটি ।।

3) And learned men¹⁰ came to the Tsar, but they all answered his questions differently.

=এবং বিদ্বান ব্যক্তিরা  জারের কাছে এলেন কিনতউ তারা সকলেই তার প্রশ্নগুলির আলাদা আলাদা উত্তর দিলেন ।।   (10.- লার্নড মেন)

4) In reply to the first question, some said that to know the right time for every action, one must draw up in  advance¹¹a table of days, months, and years, and must live strictly¹² according to it.

= প্রথম প্রশ্নের উত্তরে  কেউ কেউ বললেন যে প্রতিটি  কাজের সঠিক সময় জানার জন্য একজনকে অবশ্যই  একটি দিন, মাস, এবং  বছরের  অগ্রিম তালিকা  / সারণি তৈরি করে রাখতে  এবং সেই তালিকা অনুসারে কঠোর ভাবে জীবন ধারন করতে হবে ।  (11.- অ্যডভ্যান্স; 12.- স্ট্রিকলি)

5) Only  thus,  said they, could everything be done at its proper time.

= তারা বললেন, কেবলমাত্র এই ভাবেই সবকিছু উপযুক্ত / নির্দিষ্ট  সময়ে করা সম্ভব ।।

6) Others declared¹³ that it was impossible to decide beforehand¹⁴   the right time for every action, but that not letting oneself be absorbed¹⁵ in idle pastimes¹⁶, one should always attend to all   that was going on and  then do what was most needful¹⁷.

= অন্যরা ঘোষনা করল যে প্রত্যেক  কাজের জন্য সঠিক সময় স্থির করা অসম্ভব  ব্যাপার, কিন্তু নিজেকে  অলস বিনোদনে মগ্ন  / ব্যাস্ত  না রেখে চারপাশে যা ঘটে চলেছে  তাতে দৃষ্টি  রাখা উচিত এবং তারপর স্থির করা উচিত কোনটা সবচেয়ে জরুরী ।।   (13.- ডিক্লেয়ার্ড; 14.-বিফোরহ্যান্ড, 15.- অ্যাবসরব;16.-পাস্টটাইম;  17.-নিডফুল; )

 7) Others, again, said that however attentive¹⁸ the Tsar might be to what was going on, it was impossible for one man to decide¹⁹ correctly the right time for every action, but that he should have a council²⁰ of wise men  who would help him to fix the proper time for everything.

 = অন্যেরা আবার বললেন যে জার তার চারপাশে যা ঘটে  চলেছে তাতে যতই না  মনোযোগী হন না কেন ,  কোন একজন একা লোকের পক্ষে  প্রত্যেক কাজের জন্য সঠিকসময় সঠিক ভাবে স্থির করা অসম্ভব,  কিন্তু জার জ্ঞানী-গুনী  ব্যাক্তিদের  নিয়ে একটি পারিষদ গঠন করতে পারেন  যারা তাকে সবকিছু সঠিক সময়ে স্থির করতে সাহায্য করবেন  ।।   (18.- অ্যাটেনটিভ; 19.-ডিসাইড, 20.- কাউনসিল; )

8) But  then  again others said   there were some things which could not wait to be laid before a council, but about which one had at once to decide whether to undertake them or not.

 = কিন্তু আবার অন্যরা বললেন, এমন কিছু বিষয়  আছে যেগুলি পারিষদের  কাছে পেশ / উপস্থিত করার  অপেক্ষা রাখে না কিন্তু সেগুলি সম্পাদন করা  হবে কি না সে ব্যাপারে তাতক্ষনিক সিধান্ত নিতে হয় ।।

9) But in order to decide  that, one must know beforehand what was going to happen.

= এ ব্যাপারে স্থির করতে  / সিধান্ত  নিতে গেলে একজনকে আগে ভাগে জানতে হবে  কি ঘটতে চলেছে   ।।

10) It is only magicians who know that; and, therefore, in order to know the right time for every action, one must consult²¹ magicians.

= একমাত্র  জাদুকরেরাই এটা বলতে পারে, সেইজন্য  প্রত্যেক কাজের সঠিক সময় জানার জন্য জাদুকরদের সঙ্গে  পরামর্শ করা উচিত ।।  (21.- কনস্যাল্ট)

11) Equally various²²were the answers to the second question.  

= একই ভাবে দ্বিতীয় প্রশ্নের ভিন্ন ভিন্ন উত্তর এল  (ভেরিয়াস)

12) Some said the people the Tsar most needed were his councilors; others, the priests²³; others, the doctors; while some said the warriors²⁴were the most necessary.

= কেউ কেউ বলল জারের যাদের সবচেয়ে বেশি প্রয়োজন তারা হল তার মন্রনাদাতা ( মন্ত্রীসভার সদস্য ) , অন্যরা বলল পুরোহিতদের কথা ,  কেউ বলল চিকিৎসকদের কথা  আবার কেউ কেউ বলল যোদ্ধারাই হল  সর্বাপক্ষা প্রয়োজনীয় ।।    ( 23.-প্রিস্টস; 24.-ওয়ারিওরস)

13)To the third question, as to what was the most important occupation²⁵, some replied that the most important thing in the world was science.

= কাজ কি ; কেউ কেউ উত্তর দিল যযে পৃথিবীতে  সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ন কাজ / বিষয় হল বিজ্ঞান  ।।  (25.- অকুপেশান)

14) Others said it was skill in warfare²⁶; and others, again, that it was religious worship²⁷.

 = অন্যরা বলল যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে দক্ষতার কথা , আবার কেউ কেউ বলল এটা ধর্মীয় উপাসনা  ।।    (26.- ওয়ারফেয়ার;27.-রিলিজিয়াস ওরশিপ)

15)All the answers being different, the Tsar  agreed  with none of them, and gave the reward to none.

= প্রতিটি উত্তর আলাদা আলাদা হওয়ায় জার কারোর সাথে সহমত হতে পারলেন না এবং কাউকে পুরস্কার দিলেন না ।।

16)  But still wishing to find the right answers to his questions, he decided to consult a hermit, widely renowned²⁸ for his wisdom²⁹. 

= কিন্তু তখনও তার প্রশ্নের উত্তর খুঁজে পাওয়ার জন্য তিনি এক সন্ন্যাসীর পরামর্শ নেবেন বলে ঠিক করলেন, যিনি তার জ্ঞানের / পান্ডিত্যের জন্য প্রসিদ্ধ ছিলেন  ।।     (28.- রিনয়েনড;29.-উইসডম)

( H )

17) The hermit lived in   a wood which he never    quitted³⁰, and he received none but common folk³¹.

= সন্ন্যাসীটি একটি জঙ্গলে বাস করতেন, জঙ্গল তিনি কখনও ত্যাগ করতেন না , এবং সাধারন লোক ছাড়া কারোর সঙ্গে দেখা করতেন না  ।

( I )

 18)  So the Tsar put on simple clothes and, before reaching the hermit’s cell, dismounted³² from his horse.

  = তাই জার সাধারন পোশাক পরলেন এবং সন্ন্যাসীর কুটিরে  পৌঁছানোর আগে ঘোড়া থেকে নামলেন  ।।  (32.- ডিসমাউন্টেড;)

19) Leaving his bodyguard behind, he went on alone.

  = তার  দেহরক্ষীদের পিছনে ফেলে একাকী চললেন  ।।

20) When the Tsar approached³³, the hermit was digging³⁴the ground in front of his hut.

=  যখন জার পৌঁছালেন, সন্ন্যাসীটি তার কুটিরের সামনে মাটি খুঁড়ছিলেন,  / কোপাচ্ছিলেন  ।।  (33.- অ্যপরোচড;34.-ডিগিং)

21)Seeing the Tsar, he greeted³⁵ him   and went on  digging.

= জারকে দেখে তিনি অভ্যর্থনা জানালেন ও মাটি খোঁড়ার কাজ চালিয়ে গেলেন  ।।  (35.- গ্রিটেড;)

22) The hermit was frail³⁶ and weak, and each time he    stuck³⁷ his spade into the ground and turned a little earth, he breathed³⁸ heavily.

   = সন্ন্যসীটি ছিলেন শীর্ণ ও দূর্বল এবং প্রত্যেকবার মাটিতে কোদাল চালিয়ে অল্প একটু মাটি তোলার সময় তিনি হাঁফাচ্ছিলেন    ।।     (36.- ফ্রেইল;37.-স্টাক ;38.-ব্রেদড)

24) The Tsar went up to   him and said: “I have come to   you,  wise hermit, to ask you to answer three questions:

  = জার তার কাছে  গেলেন এবং বললেন, “ আপনি জ্ঞানী সন্ন্যাসী , আমি আপনার কাছে তিনটি  প্রশ্নের উত্তর জানতে এসেছি ।

25)  How can I learn to do the right thing at the right time?

= কিভাবে আমি সঠিক কাজ সঠিক সময়ে  করার কথা  জানতে পারি / শিখতে পারি ??

26) Who are the people I most need, and to whom should I, therefore, pay more attention³⁹ than to the rest?

= কোন লোকেরা আমার কাছে সবচেয়ে বেশি প্রয়োজনীয় এবং কাদের আমি বাকিদের তুলনায় বেশি গুরুত্ব দেব ?  (39.- অ্যাটেনশান;)

27) And, what affairs are the most important and need my first attention?”

= এবং কোন ধরনের কাজ সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ন ও আমার প্রথম মনোযোগ দেওয়া  প্রয়োজন   ?

28)The hermit listened to the Tsar, but answered nothing.

   = সন্ন্যাসীটি জারের সব কথা শুননেন কিন্তু কোন উত্তর দিলেন না ।

29) He   just spat⁴⁰ on his hand and recommenced⁴¹digging.

       (40.- স্প্যাট;41.-রেকমেন্সড)

= তিনি কেবল তার হাতে থুথু লাগালেন এবং পুনরায় খোঁড়ার কাজ শুরু করলেন  ।।

30) “You are tired,” said the Tsar, “let  me take the spade and work awhile⁴² for you.”

= ‘আপনি ক্লান্ত’, জার বললেন, ‘ আমাকে আপনার কোদাল টি দিন এবং আপনার হয়ে একটু কাজ করতে দিন’  ।।  (42.- এহোয়াইল;)

31) “Thanks!” said the hermit, and, giving the spade to the Tsar, he sat down on the ground.

= ‘ধন্যবাদ’ , সন্ন্যসী টি বললেন এবং তার কোদাল টি জারকে দিলেন এবং মাটির ওপর বসলেন  ।।

32)When he had dug two beds, the Tsar stopped and repeated⁴³ his questions.

=  যখন জার দুটি গর্ত্ত খুঁড়লেন, তিনি থামলেন ও পুনরায় তার প্রশ্নগুলি করলেন    ।।  (43.-রিপিটেড;)

33)The hermit again gave no answer, but  rose, stretched⁴⁴out his hand for the spade, and said:

 =  সন্ন্যসীটি আবার কোনো উত্তর দিলেন না, কিন্তু তিনি উঠলেন ও নিজের হাত কোদালের জন্য বাড়িয়ে দিয়ে বললেন : (44.-স্ট্রেচড;)

34) “Now rest  awhile – and  let me work  a bit.”

=  এবার / এখন আপনি একটু বিশ্রাম করুন আর আমাকে একটু কাজ করতে  দিন ।।

35)But the Tsar did not give him the spade, and continued to dig.

    =  কিন্তু জার সন্ন্যাসীকে কোদাল না দিয়ে খোঁড়ার কাজ চালিয়ে গেলেন   ।।

36) One hour passed, and another.

  = এক ঘন্টা অতিক্রম হল এবং তারপর আরও এক ঘন্টা  ।।

37) The sun began to sink behind the trees, and the Tsar at last stuck the spade into the ground, and said:  “I  came to  you, wise man, for an answer to my questions.

= সূর্য গাছপালার আড়ালে / পিছনে অস্ত গেল / ডুবতে লাগল, জার অবশেষে কোদালটি মাটিতে নামিয়ে বললেন, “ হে পন্ডিত, আমি আপনার কাছে এসেছিলাম আমার প্রশ্নের উত্তর পাওয়ার জন্য  ।।

38) If  you can give me none, tell me so, and I  will return home.”

= আপনি যদি তা দিতে পারেন, তাহলে আমাকে সেটা বলুন , আমি বাড়ি ফিরে যাব   ।।

39) “Here comes someone running,” said the hermit.       

= “কেউ একজন এদিকে দৌড়ে আসছে “, সন্ন্যাসী বললেন ।।                     

  40) “Let us see  who it is.”

= “ চলুন দেখি এটা  কে ?”

41) The Tsar turned round and saw  a bearded⁴⁵ man come running out  of the wood.

= জার পিছনে ঘুরলেন দেখলেন একজন দাড়িওয়ালা লোক বনের মধ্যে থেকে দৌড়ে বেরিয়ে আসছে   ।।  (45.-বেয়ার্ড;)

42) The man held his hands pressed against his stomach, and blood was flowing from under them.

 = লোকটি হাত দিয়ে তার পেটটা চেপে / শক্ত করে ধরেছিল এবং তার হাতের নীচ দিয়ে রক্ত ঝরে পড়ছিল ।।

43) When he reached the Tsar, he fell fainting⁴⁶ on the ground, moaning⁴⁷feebly⁴⁸.

= যখন সে জারের কাছে পৌঁছাল , সে অস্পষ্ট স্বরে / দূর্বল ভাবে গোঙাতে গোঙাতে অজ্ঞান হয়ে মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়ল   ।। (46.-ফেনটিং;( 47-মোনিং 48.-ফিবলি)

44)The Tsar and the hermit unfastened⁴⁹ the man’s clothing.    

= জার ও সন্ন্যসী লোকটির পোশাক খুলেদিলেন  ।।(49.-আনফাসটেনড;)

45) There was  a  large wound⁵⁰ in his stomach⁵¹.

= তার পেটে একটি বিশাল / গভীর ক্ষত ছিল ।। (50.-উন্ড;51.-স্টোম্যাক)

46) The Tsar washed it   as best   he could, and bandaged ⁵²it with his handkerchief⁵³and with a towel the hermit had.

= জার যতটা ভালোভাবে সম্ভব ক্ষতটি ধুয়ে / পরিস্কার করে দিলেন, এবং তার রুমাল  ও সন্ন্যসীর তোয়ালে দিয়ে পট্টি বেঁধে দিলেন  ।।  (52.-ব্যানডেজড;53.-হ্যান্ডকারচিফ)

47) But the blood would not stop flowing, and the Tsar again and again removed the bandage soaked⁵⁴ with warm blood, and washed and re-bandaged the wound.

= কিন্তু রক্ত বের হওয়া বন্ধ হল না  জার বার বার উষ্ঞ রক্তে ভেজা ক্ষতের পট্টিটা সরিয়ে দিচ্ছিলেন, পরিস্কার করে আবার ক্ষত স্থান বেঁধে দিচ্ছিলেন  ।।    (54.-সোকড;)

47) When at last the blood ceased⁵⁵ flowing, the man revived⁵⁶ and asked for something to drink. 

= অবশেষে যখন রক্ত পড়া বন্ধ হল, লোকটি চেতনা ফিরে পেল এবং পান করার জন্য কিছু চাইল  ।।          (56.-রিভাইভড;)

48) The Tsar brought fresh water  and gave   it to him.

= জার টাটকা / পরিস্কার জল এনে তাকে দিলেন   ।।

49) Meanwhile the sun had set, and it had become cool.

=  ইতিমধ্যে সূর্য অস্ত গিয়েছিল, এবং চারপাশ ঠান্ডা হয়েছিল ।।

50) So the Tsar, with the hermit’s help, carried the wounded man into the hut and laid him on the bed.

= তাই জার সন্ন্যাসীর সাহায্য নিয়ে আহত লোকটিকে কুটিরের মধ্যে আনলেন এবং তাকে বিছানায় শুইয়ে  দিলেন  ।।

51) Lying on the bed, the man closed his eyes and was quiet; but the Tsar was so tired from his walk and from the work he had done that he crouched down on the threshold, and also fell asleep – so soundly that he slept all through the short summer night.

= বিছানার উপর শুয়ে লোকটি তার চোখ বন্ধ করল এবং শান্ত / চুপ হয়ে গেল, কিন্তু জার হাঁটাহাঁটি করে ও কাজ করে এতটাই ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়েছিল যে তিনি ঘরের চৌকাঠ / দোরগোড়ায় গুটিসুটি মেরে শুয়ে পড়লেন, এবং ঘুমিয়ে পড়লেন – এতটাই গভীরভাবে ঘুমোলেন যে গ্রীষ্মের স্বল্প রাতটুকু ঘুমিয়েই কাটিয়ে দিলেন  ।।

52)When he awoke in the morning, it was long before he   could remember where he was, or who was the strange bearded man   lying on the bed and gazing⁵⁷ intently⁵⁸at him with shining eyes.

= যখন সকালবেলায় তিনি ঘুম থেকে উঠলেন, তার অনেক্ষন সময় লেগে গেল মনে করতে যে তিনি কোথায় আছেন বা বিছানায় শুয়ে থাকা অদ্ভুত দাড়িওয়ালা লোকটি কে যে ঝকঝকে চোখে / তীক্ষ্ন দৃষ্টিতে তার দিকে তাকিয়ে আছে   ।।    (57.-গেজিং ;58.-ইনটেন্টলি;)

53)“Forgive me!” said the bearded man in a weak voice, when he saw that the Tsar was awake and was Looking  at   him.

=“ আমায় ক্ষমা করুন ” , দাড়িওয়ালা লোকটি দূর্বল কন্ঠে বলল, যখন সে দেখল জার ঘুম থেকে উঠে  তার দিকে তাকিয়ে  আছে ।।

54) “I do not know you, and have nothing to forgive you for,” said the Tsar.

=   জার বললেন, “আমি আপনাকে চিনিনা আর আপনার ক্ষমা চাওয়ার মতোও কারন নেই ”  ।।

55) “You do not know me, but I know you.

= “ আপনি আমায় চেনেন না, কিন্তু আমি আপনাকে চিনি ”  ।।

56) I am that enemy of yours who swore⁵⁹to revenge⁶⁰ himself on you, because you executed⁶¹his brother and  seized⁶²  his property⁶³.

    =  আমি হলাম আপনার সেই শত্রু যে আপনার ওপর প্রতিশোধ নেওয়ার জন্য শপথ করেছিলাম কারন আপনি আমার ভাইকে হত্যা করেছিলেন এবং তার সম্পত্তি বাজেয়াপ্ত / দখল করেছিলেন ।। (59.-সোওর ;60.-রিভেঞ্জ;61.-এক্সিকিউটেড;62.-সিজড;63.-প্রপাটি)

57)  I   knew   you had gone alone to see the hermit,   and I resolved⁶⁴ to kill   you on your way back.

=আমি জানতাম আপনি সন্ন্যাসীর সঙ্গে একলা দেখা করতে গিয়েছিলেন এবং আমি সংকল্প করি যে আপনার ফেরার পথে আপনাকে হত্য করব

58) But the day  passed and you did not return.

= কিন্তু দিন অতিবাহিত হয়ে গেলেও আপনি ফিরলেন না  ।।

59) So    I came out   from my ambush⁶⁵to find you, and came upon your bodyguard, and they recognized⁶⁶ me, and wounded me.

= তাই আমি আমার গোপন লুকানোর স্থান থেকে বেরিয়ে এলাম আপনাকে খুঁজতে এবং আপনার দেহরক্ষীদের মুখে পড়লাম , তারা আমায় চিনতে পারল এবল আমাকে আহত করল ।।   (65.-অ্যামবুশ ;66.-রেকগনাইজড;)

60)  I  escaped⁶⁷ from them, but should have bled⁶⁸ to death had you  not dressed my wound.

=আমি তাদের হাত থেকে পালিয়ে এসেছিলাম, কিন্তু রক্তপাত হয়ে হয়তো মারাই যেতাম যদি না আপনি আমার ক্ষত স্থান বেঁধে দিতেন ।

61) I wished to kill  you, and  you have saved my life.

= আমি আপনাকে হত্যা করতে চেয়েছিলাম কিন্তু আপনি আমার জীবন রক্ষা করলেন  ।।

62)Now if  I live, and if    you wish  it, I will serve  you  as  your most faithful slave⁶⁹, and will     bid  my sons do the same.

  = এখন যদি আমি বাঁচি এবং যদি সেটা আপনি চান, তাহলে আমি আপনার সবচেয়ে বিশ্বস্থ ভৃত্য / গোলাম হিসাবে কাজ করব এবং আমার সন্তানদেরও তাই করতে বলব  ।।   (69.-ফেথফুল স্লেভ;)

63) Forgive me!”

= আমাকে ক্ষমা করে দিন   ।।
