1) Sir Mohan Lal looked at   himself in the mirror¹ of a first class waiting room at the railway station .

= কুলিটি তার পাগড়িটা আলগাকরে একটা গদি করল, স্টিলের ট্রাঙ্কটা মাথায় তুলে নিয়ে প্ল্যাটফর্মের দিকে এগিয়ে চলল।

25) Lady Lal picked up her brass tiffin – carrier⁴¹ and ambled along⁴² behind him.

26) On the way she stopped by a hawker’s stall to replenish³¹ her silver betel leaf case³² and then joined the coolie.

27) She sat down  on  her  steel trunk ( which the coolie had put down ) and  started  talking to him.

28) “ Are the trains very crowded³³ on this lines ?      

 = এই লাইনের ট্রেনগুলিতে কি খুব ভিড় হয় ?      (33.- ক্রাউডেড)

29)“ These days all   trains   are crowded , but   you’ll find room in the zenana .”

= এই সময়ে সমস্ত ট্রেনগুলিতেই ভিড় হয় কিন্তু আপনি মহিলা কামরায় জায়গা পেয়ে যাবেন ।।।

30) Then I   might as well get over the bother³⁴of eating .”

 =  তাহলে আমি বরং খাবার ঝামেলাটা চুকিয়ে ফেলি ।।। (34.- বদারিং; )

31)Lady Lal opened the brass carrier and took out a bundle³⁵ of cramped³⁶ chapattis and some mangopickle³⁷

= ‘ দিদি, আপনি কি একাই বেরিয়েছেন ? ’

35) He is in the waiting room.

 = ‘ তিনি প্রতীক্ষালয়ে আছেন ’ ।।।

36) He travels first class.     He is a  vizier⁴⁰and a barrister⁴¹, and meets so many officer and Englishmen in the trains – and I am only a native⁴² woman.
